    To The Grain//Junip

Forplay’s second coming is always Forplay, again

In all my music related email, I always wondered who Junip was and why I was on his/her/their mailing list. Turns out it’s Jose Gonzales regrouped.

    Bravin’ the Storm

The Gaslamp Killer - It’s a Rocky Road Vol. 2

    I chillayed…plugged in…and shoveled 8” of blizzard.

Resident Low End Theory dj and master podcaster, Gaslamp Killer, uses a formula that packs in music of decades passed into a crème de la crème 60 minutes long mix. Killer, known fondly as Willie Bensussen, is of the breed that scours record shops and car boots for obscure vinyls that none of us know of, but we all wish we did. GLK’s minutes include everything from 60s psych and dusty folk ballads to soul samples and space jazz.

    No tracklist. None necessary.

Where in the world is M. Craft?

Take the sorrow of Elliot Smith’s vocals, add to that Tunng’s wicked guitar display on ‘Fair Doreen’ and mix that with Fink’s drum reverb in ‘Trouble’s What You’re In’ - and you have the layered sounds of M. Craft on his debut, Silver and Fire.

In 2006 Martin Craft finally released his album, and unfortunately (as my most sincere efforts have proven) has fallen off the grid since. His myspace page has become a wasteland for ringtone and iphone application ads, his domain name (mcraft.co.uk) may be for sale, and he is no longer listed as chum on 679 Records (who is also home to The Streets).

is a broad based music discovery vehicle for widely heard and unheard tracks. While the music selection is mood inspired, the accompanying commentary, which boasts no expertise, aims to identify some of the outstanding features of the tracks (in addition to the seemingly useless and random discussion of anything from pop culture to high-end denim).

Be Constructive - get stuck in the comments!

Note: If you, the artist, or the management would like for your music to not be forplayed, please contact via the envelope.
