Forplay’s club jam
All things dark and dubby for the past several months have been brought to the world primarily by Jamie XX - so much so that even Drake had to get off Lil Wayne’s dick and get a lick of Jamie on his recent album. But we’ll save that unsavory tirade for another post.
Until then sink into this track made famous by Jamie XX on his FACT Mix.
Sounds Like: Jamie XX, James Blake, Phaseone

We’re (not) new here
For a few hours last evening (which is really dog years in internet time), I and presumably a dedicated few others were able to stream the Jamie XX and Gil Scott Heron album thanks to the organization of PostDubstep @ Tumblr. Unlike revolutions of recent years, we didn’t coalesce on twitter with hash-tags of common interests. We probably all acted out of boredom, the last of our maui waui and an unnatural keenness for Jamie xx beats. However, as any music junkie worth his stash will tell you, the record labels have a stronger hold over the internet than Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak. And so today, those videos are nothing but evidence of a tracklist for the album due out on Feb 22nd.
Here’s Forplay’s own little piece of the protest. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Gil Scott Heron & Jamie xx - My Cloud (Left Click)
Repeatedly posted because some things are better late than never, and because of my own predilection for all things wobbly with a ‘break ya neck’ flare.
During the past six odd months, any stream of Jamie XX’s remixes of Gil Scott-Heron has been celebrated and documented here and here. Now, with an official video and website to formalize the project, we only have to wait another three months till release date.
It’s been interesting to watch Jamie XX’s work over the past few months. Besides being a one-stop-shop for all things good with dubstep, his releases have also been an early indicator of where The XX might go with their next release…whenever that may be. With that in mind, it’s encouraging that Jamie is introducing new percussion elements, in this case - the steel pan.
The track will be out in about a month or so. My question is - where the fuck is the much talked about Gil Scott Heron remix album??
There’s nothing more delightful than finding Jamie xx’s remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s New York is killing me while snacking on a chips-ahoy chocolate chip oatmeal chewy cookie (see your local grocery store for details). An hour and a half of scouring the nooks and crannies of the interwebs all came together in a mixture of delicious tastes and sounds.
For sometime now we’ve all been waiting for the Jamie xx’s take on Gil Scott-Heron, and the time has come….or is right around the corner, if you’re one that judges by official release dates. Check out the snippet previewed at ‘Rum and Bass warehouse event, Boiler Room, in London town. What’s particularly rewarding about this is that it takes some mystery out of the “Silent One - Dubplate 1” track featured on Jamie’s (based on the number of xx related posts, we’re on a first name basis now) Colette mix - it seems as if it is the backdrop for New York is Killing Me remix — which is sickkkkk. Wobble Out!

Forplay is running out of xx pictures to post
I am aware that I wax poetic about the xx far too often - and that two consecutive xx related posts is unoriginal fo’ sho, but they’re just a hardworking fucking band. As the debut album has gained prominence amongst the OMG! status tweeters and twats, those early on the band(’s)wagon have focused their attention to xx produced remixes and future projects - quality assurance and all that. Things that I shamelessly wonder about: will the xx’s sound change? (i hope not) - what is the black smoke on the island’s name? (fuck if i know). The Florence rework was a pleasant surprise when it came out. Word of plans to remix Gill Scot Heron’s latest album definitely piqued my interest. And sadly, the recent Yacht album was a bit of a disappointment.
But at least the band’s making music. In this mix, scratched for French uber-boutique Colette, Jamie xx’s expansive musical taste is on display. It’s garage, it’s dubstep, it’s all things beats. Heavy!
….And it definitely beats whatever the fuck Shakira is trying to do.
